What is a Virtual Power Plant?
A Virtual Power Plant (VPP) is a network of household solar + battery and battery only systems, that is managed remotely to generate, store and transfer energy to and from the grid. VPPs can increase or decrease energy supply to the grid almost instantly, providing a flexible, cost-effective and clean energy solution, helping to build a more reliable energy system for the future.
How does the VPP benefit me?
When you join our Virtual Power Plant, your solar battery will work with other batteries across NSW to generate you VPP Rewards.
The VPP works with your existing equipment, so there’s no installation or software required. Plus, while our VPP is running there will be no impact to your electricity supply.
What are the Financial Rewards?
You'll receive 50c/kWh for your energy when you switch to an eligible electricity plan. Once you've joined the VPP, you'll start earning rewards without having to lift a finger! Plus, your VPP payments are paid on top of any other benefits your system offers, and any solar feed-in tariff you get when you supply energy back to the grid.
But you won’t just be financially rewarded for being part of the VPP, you’ll help accelerate Australia’s transition to a clean energy future. And you could also help prevent blackouts and stabilise the grid for thousands of homes. You'll always be better off financially when you join the Plico VPP!

We have the largest and longest-running VPP in WA, and now we're bringing our VPP expertise to NSW. Our community of solar + battery systems is like one mini power plant, providing energy to the grid when it's most beneficial. Our VPP is for everyone. You can join up if you:
- Live in NSW.
- Have an Alpha ESS, Redback Technologies or Sigenergy battery system.
- Have an operating battery system, and a reliable internet connection via ethernet or Wi-Fi.
- Aren’t already part of a Virtual Power Plant (you will have to opt out of any other VPP arrangements).
- Are on an eligible electricity plan.
- Have a smart meter installed at your premise or agree to have one installed. Smart meters are digital interval billing meters that measure electricity consumption in a home.
