The Era of Actionism | Plico Energy

The age of activism has gone. It is now the Era of Actionism (well, according to us at Plico anyway).

Activism consists of efforts to promote, impede, direct, or intervene in social, political, economic, or environmental reform with the desire to make changes in society toward a perceived greater good.

Rallies, marches, sit-ins, hunger strikes, boycotts, strikes…all forms of Activism designed to force change at a “higher” level. At a level where change is inevitably slow and impacted by bureaucracy and hidden agendas. And while there are plenty of examples throughout history where they have worked, the efforts to affect climate change are yet to make a substantial impact with real change.

In a world where we often feel powerless about having a real and tangible impact on climate change as individuals – actually taking action has previously felt pointless.

That’s where the Era of Actionism was created.

CHANGE MADE EASY

We wanted to create a way to make it easy for people to do something that was affordable, effortless, and which benefited themselves and the planet.

Being green isn’t all about sacrifices. It’s about making choices that consider the wider impact.

On this weekend of Black Friday and Cyber Monday, where sales and deals and bonus offers are placed under our noses every place we look (especially on your Facebook feed and your email inbox), have you stopped to consider the impact all this has on the planet?

A Patagonia email that arrived in my inbox pointed out that “The clothing industry contributes up to 10% of the pollution driving the climate crisis.” Their philosophy suggests you, “Buy less, repair what you wear out. Support brands that care for people and the planet.” Their call to action? Buy Less, Demand More.

And we say yeah!

So our message to you is – think before you buy and explore companies that have ethical and sustainable manufacturing practices, or that are focused on actions that help bring about change sooner.

Again, it’s not about not having stuff. But informed buyers will help transition industries to adopt sustainable processes in the delivery of their “stuff” if we are selective about who we purchase from.

So, while the clothing industry isn’t great – household emissions are an even greater contributor to the total Australian emissions produced each year. And that’s got to be the easiest place to take action that will have an impact – and that you have control over.

A solar + battery system like ours will help you reduce your carbon footprint. As the community of owners grows, so does our impact. Stop thinking, start doing.

The era of Actionism has arrived.
