What solar + battery rebates are available in WA in 2025?
There are a number of different solar and solar battery rebates currently available in WA in 2025.
WA Battery Rebate
From 1 July 2025, the WA Government is offering rebates for solar batteries. WA households can access up to $1,300* for Synergy customers and up to $3,800* for Horizon Power customers, determined by the size of the battery. Plus, households can access a 30% discount through the National Battery Rebate scheme.
The WA Residential Battery Scheme has been expanded to benefit an estimated 100,000 households in WA. Rebates will be applied at $130/kWh for a minimum 5 kWh to up to 10 kWh of battery capacity. Households can choose to install larger batteries and benefit further from the National Battery Rebate; however the WA Rebate is capped at 10 kWh.
Battery systems need to be connected to a Virtual Power Plant (VPP) to be eligible for the WA Battery Rebate. Plico has been selected as the only non-retailer VPP provider, with proven experience in VPP capability and generating financial rewards for our members.

WA solar battery interest-free loans
A number of no-interest loans of up to $10,000* will also be made available to support households with a combined annual income of less than $210,000 access a solar battery to save on their energy bills.
Plico’s unique weekly instalment model means there are no large upfront costs when you choose to install a solar + battery system with us. We’ll factor your rebate into your weekly instalment, allowing you to access the savings and greater energy independence without a big upfront payment on standard installations.
National Battery Rebate
The Cheaper Home Batteries Program announced aims to make solar batteries more affordable for Aussie households.
The $2.3 billion program is expected to reduce the cost of a typical installed battery by around 30 per cent*. The program will be rolled out on 1 July 2025, with over one million new batteries expected by 2030.
Through the program, households are expected to save around $4000* on a typical household solar battery, with the rebate applied at around $370/kWh (less potential scheme administration costs). The National Battery Rebate can be stacked with the WA Battery Rebate to help WA households save even more.

Small-Scale Technology Certificates (STC)
STCs are distributed under the Small-Scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES), which is an Australian Government program to manage and encourage investment in small-scale renewable energy across the country.
STCs vary in value, and the number you’re eligible for (i.e. the rebate you’re entitled to) depends on the size of the system you buy and your postcode. STCs are commonly used by solar system providers as a discount or rebate on the cost of a solar system or any other small-scale renewable energy system (such as solar hot water, small-scale wind, and hydro systems). Rebates have even been made available for the purchase of electric vehicles.
For those wondering how solar rebates work, as a Plico member, you automatically receive the benefit of rebates for solar power, through our low weekly instalments. We account for the rebate by lowering our member costs, so there’s nothing you need to do or calculate.
Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS)
The Distributed Energy Buyback Scheme (DEBS) is designed to financially reward customers for the excess solar energy they export to the grid.
DEBS is designed to encourage people to export the electricity that they haven’t used back to the grid. It allows the WA Government to buy back your excess energy, which then appears on your bill as a credit. It also offers a ‘time of use’ rate, meaning that the amount you get for excess energy depends on the time of day you export it.
DEBS replaced the Renewable Energy Buyback Scheme (REBS), and is available to residential, not-for-profit and education solar customers.

Switch Your Thinking program
Switch Your Thinking is an energy efficiency pilot program, designed to encourage residents to make their homes more sustainable. Run at local council level, it partners with local businesses to offer residents discounts for being more energy efficient.
The program does not focus solely on the benefits of solar; it also addresses energy efficiency, as well as reducing your water consumption, waste food and other sustainable initiatives.
