Solar Panels:
Harness energy
from the sun
Power your Home with Sunshine
Solar panels are one of the simplest ways to take control of your home energy. They sit quietly on your roof, soak up sunlight during the day, and turn it into clean electricity your home can use. That means less reliance on the grid, more protection from rising energy costs, and a smarter way to power the things you use every day. With Australia's abundance of sunshine, it pays to have panels on your roof.
How do Solar Panels Work?
Solar panels are made up of photovoltaic cells, which capture sunlight and convert it into direct current (DC) electricity. Your inverter then changes that electricity into alternating current (AC) electricity, which is the electricity used to run appliances lights, A/Cs, pool pumps, EV chargers and everything in between.
During the day, your home will use solar power first. If your panels are generating more than your home needs at that moment, the extra energy can be sent to the grid or stored in a solar battery. That’s where things get really powerful.
Batteries should always come included
Solar panels are brilliant during the day, but most homes use the majority of their energy in the evening and nighttime. That is why a battery is so important. Without one, your excess solar power is exported to the grid, and you need to buy electricity back later when the sun goes down. When feed-in tariffs for solar were high, you were paid generously for this excess energy. These days, feed-in tariffs can be as little as 2c/kWh or nothing at all, which makes storage all the more important.
A solar battery stores the extra energy your panels generate so you can use more of your own power when you actually need it. It helps you get more value from your solar system, reduce grid reliance and feel more in control of your household energy.
Battery adoption is also growing quickly across Australia. Clean Energy Council data shows battery sales surged in 2025, with 183,245 batteries sold in the second half of the year alone. More households are realising that solar panels are only half the story. The real magic happens when you can store your sunshine and use it on your terms.
Plico offers a range of solar PLUS battery systems to suit every home. With government rebates making batteries more affordable than ever, it's the perfect time to future-proof your home with a complete solar + battery solution.
Solar PLUS battery
The smart way forward
A solar only system can reduce your daytime energy costs, but a solar + battery system gives you more flexibility, more control and more opportunity to use the clean energy your own roof produces. It can also provide additional benefits like blackout protection, smart energy management and Virtual Power Plant Rewards.
At Plico, we believe every solar panel system should be designed for the way homes use energy. That's why we only install solar panel systems with a battery, supporting smarter homes and a smarter, cleaner energy network.

Why every home needs solar panels
Electricity bills are not going away, but solar gives households a practical way to reduce how much power they need to buy from the grid. Instead of simply paying for energy every quarter, your roof starts producing it for you.
For many homes, solar is no longer a nice-to-have. It is becoming essential home infrastructure. It can help lower bills, reduce exposure to future price rises, support cleaner energy use and make your home better prepared for an electric future, including batteries, electric vehicles and smarter appliances.

Australia is leading the way
The sunny country.
Australia is one of the world’s rooftop solar success stories. More than 4.3 million Australian homes now have solar panels, which is around one in three households. The Clean Energy Council reported that by the end of 2025, rooftop solar PV had reached 28.3 GW of installed capacity and contributed 14.2% of Australia’s electricity generation in the second half of the year.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics has also highlighted just how far rooftop solar has come, with household solar generation increasing twenty-fold since 2010-11. Solar is now part of everyday life for millions of Australians, and adoption is continuing to grow as households look for better ways to manage their energy costs. Adn now we're breaking records for batteries too!

How much energy do you use? Pick the option closest to your average monthly electricity bill, or choose Actual to enter your own figure.
The amount of savings is based on electricity consumption only, the daily supply charge has not been factored in. The amount of savings does not factor in the costs of the system, regardless of whether it's paid upfront or on a credit contract. The amount of the annual bill savings factors in feed in tariff amounts for any kilowatt-hours exported back to the grid, it does not factor in any export limiting of the inverter. For monthly bills between $100 and $130 amounts, the annual savings amount is greater than the annual bill amount, due to feed in tariff credits for amounts exported back to the grid.

Solar Panel FAQs
-
How many solar panels do I need?
The number of panels you need depends on your household energy use, roof space, battery size and energy goals. As a guide, Plico uses 475 W Jinko panels, so a 6.65 kW solar array is around 14 panels. We customise every quote to suit your roof and how your home uses power.
-
Do I need a battery with my solar panels?
Yes, if you want to get more value from the energy your panels produce. Solar panels generate most of their power during the day, while many homes use more energy in the evening and overnight. A battery stores excess solar so you can use more of your own power when you need it most.
-
Will solar panels work on cloudy days?
Yes. Solar panels still generate electricity on cloudy days, although output is usually lower than on bright, sunny days. High-quality panels can still capture available light, and when paired with a battery, your system can help make better use of the solar energy generated throughout the day.
-
Does my roof need to face north?
North-facing panels are ideal in Australia, but they are not the only option. East- and west-facing panels can also perform well, especially when your system is designed around your household usage patterns. Plico will assess your roof layout, shading and available space and design system tailored to your site and energy needs.
